Altrincham hit writer’s Manc Noir novel

Added: (Tue Jun 08 2021)

Pressbox (Press Release) - Acclaimed new ‘Manc Noir’ author Lynn Steinson has returned with round two of her gritty pub-quiz-themed novels.
The academic from Altrincham became an instant success in 2018 with the publication of her top-three debut, Deluded.
Last year the unexpected five-star rated psychological thriller was described by critics as ‘an intriguing read’ and ‘captivating’.
Now Lynn, who has three degrees under her belt, has brought The Sun pub quiz team back to the table for another unpredictable and pulsating outing where there are more questions than answers.
Guilt is another gripping story that follows the fortunes of quizzer Lisa, who is about to be called as a key witness in a murder trial.
Yet again Lynn uses her beloved home city on Manchester as a backdrop for the darkly alluring novel.
The creative writing graduate said: “Guilt is about the surviving members of The Sun pub quiz team from Deluded.
“Manchester is enjoying a long hot summer, but Lisa hasn’t noticed - she’s dreading being called as the chief witness in a murder trial.
“That’s after she has attended the funerals of the victims.
“In London her colleagues at Bergers advertising agency are horrified to hear rumours that they are to be relocated to Manchester.
“Rory is dispatched to the north on a mission to keep Lisa and her ambitious manager Corinne in line – at all costs.”
As with her debut, the destructive power of social media plays a prominent role in Lynn’s latest offering.
A Twitter troll adds to protagonist Lisa’s growing problems as the plot of Guilt gradually and grippingly unfolds.
Since the recent publication of Guilt, it has attracted a long string of five-star reviews from enthusiastic readers.
Lynn’s sequel has been described as ‘storytelling at its best’, ‘absorbing’, and ‘Manc Noir’.
Critic Tony Hindle added: “Believable characters with a clever whodunnit.”
Publishing her first novel, Deluded, fulfilled a long-held ambition of Lynn’s to become an author.
Despite starting several novels and short stories in her 20s, it wasn’t until after she’d completed an MA in Creative Writing at Manchester Metropolitan University that she finally submitted a finished work for publication.
Lynn added: “As I was approaching a big birthday I decided it was time to stop procrastinating and to write a novel for publication or I would never fulfil my ambition.
“I enrolled on Manchester Metropolitan University’s MA in Creative Writing.
“At the welcome reception, as we waited for Carol Ann Duffy to arrive, a fellow student asked me if I was a poet or a novelist.
“I think that was a defining moment. I declared myself to be a novelist.
“I now had to prove it.”
